Medaka, Red Stardust - Japanese Rice Fish - Oryzias Latipes

Red Stardust medaka have a warm reddish body covered in metallic sparkle, giving them a shimmering, jewel-like appearance. They are the red counterpart to the Blue Stardust, and the metallic effect is equally impressive. Under sunlight or bright tank lighting, the speckling creates a glittering effect that is hard to look away from.

Medaka are hardy, peaceful, and easy to breed. They do well in nano tanks, ponds, and outdoor tubs, and they do not need a heater. I breed my medaka outdoors in QLD following the natural seasons, which produces tougher, more colourful fish. They are social fish and do best in groups of 6 or more.
