Medaka, Miyuki (blue) - Japanese Rice Fish - Oryzias Latipes

Miyuki medaka have a striking metallic blue sheen that runs along their back and catches the light beautifully. They are one of the most popular medaka varieties worldwide, and for good reason. The blue shine is especially impressive under natural sunlight, making them a standout in outdoor tubs and ponds.

Medaka are hardy, peaceful, and easy to breed. They do well in nano tanks, ponds, and outdoor tubs, and they do not need a heater. I breed my medaka outdoors in QLD following the natural seasons, which produces tougher, more colourful fish. They are social fish and do best in groups of 6 or more.
