Sponge filters are the backbone of my fish room. They provide gentle biological and mechanical filtration that is safe for fry and shrimp, with no risk of small fish getting sucked in. They are powered by an air pump, which also adds oxygenation to the tank. I run sponge filters on the majority of my 155 tanks because they are reliable, cheap to run, and low maintenance.
