Medaka, Tiger - Japanese Rice Fish - Oryzias Latipes

Tiger medaka have distinctive dark horizontal striping along their body that gives them a bold, eye-catching pattern. The striping varies between individuals, with some showing stronger markings than others. They are one of the more visually interesting medaka varieties and look great in a group where you can see the range of patterning.

Medaka are hardy, peaceful, and easy to breed. They do well in nano tanks, ponds, and outdoor tubs, and they do not need a heater. I breed my medaka outdoors in QLD following the natural seasons, which produces tougher, more colourful fish. They are social fish and do best in groups of 6 or more.
